Thengai Poli or Sweet Poli is my most favorite sweet which we normally make for Bogi (the before day of Pongal festival) and for Aavani avittam. Be careful not to get this burnt. When it is warm , make this into big. Poli is nothing but sweet paratha stuffed with the mixture of coconut and Jaggery.

Instructions to make Thengai poli(coconut poli):
  1. Mix all purpose flour, salt and turmeric powder. Knead soft dough with enough water.
  2. Pour oil over it and knead again. Cover with lid and rest for half an hour.
  3. Grind grated coconut into mixer grinder.
  4. Heat a pan and add jaggery. Add 1/2 cup water.
  5. When jaggery dissolves, keep stirring until get thick syrup consistency.
  6. Add grounded coconut and mix well to form a thick mixture. Switch off the flame.
  7. Add cardamom powder and mix well. Stuffing is ready.
  8. Allow it to cool for sometime.
  9. Make small balls from it
  10. Now make small balls from prepared dough.
  11. Take one ball and flatten it on plastic sheet with fingers.
  12. Place stuffing ball in the centre, start pleating the edges and seal it.
  13. Dust the flour and roll out gently to medium thickness.
  14. Cook both sides with ghee or oil on tawa.
  15. Apply ghee over it and serve hot.

When it is warm , make this into big. Poli is nothing but sweet paratha stuffed with the mixture of coconut and Jaggery. This is a traditional dessert made on special and festive ocassions.
