The ingredients needed to make Khoya (Mawa):
  1. Make ready 2 litters milk
  2. Get 1 tbls purified butter/Desi ghee

In my childhood days, during the evening time, whenever dad and I are to some restaurants, the first thing we order is 'Paal Halwa' (Milk fudge).   2. Simmering milk on low flame till it reduces in half.
  3. Evaporates the water in the milk is our task. Add Desi ghee in thick mixture.
  4. When all water is reduces and there is no water in the milk a the it's thicken to mix with spatula then the khoya is ready.
  5. Let it cool then serve. Can use for any sweet, dessert or for anything in khoya is required.

But for many of my readers, finding mawa at their supermarkets is extremely difficult. Mawa or Khoya literally translates to curd in English. We are very familiar with Pedas, Halwas and Gulab jamuns. Making Mawa/khoya at home is super easy but it requires patience and time. Khoya can be made several ways using plain Milk powder, ricotta cheese or using condensed milk.
